Hi every one

I Have Installed SCVMM SP1 BETA in Windows server 2012 RTM and managing Hyper-V Hosts.

After two three days, "System center virtual machine manager agent(SCVMM local agent)" service has stopped in SCVMM server.

I m trying to start service manually it is throwing me below mentioned Error

"Windows Could not start the system center virtual machine manager agent service on local computer"

"Error 1067: The process Terminated Unexpectedly"

I can manage all my Hosts without any problem, but my library server is  local scvmm server itself so i m not able to access Templates, ISOs etc that was created earlier.

Sql Services, connections all r running properly and Prerequisites are installed properly(WAIK of Windows 8 and SQL Command line utilities).

I tried Uninstalling and Re-installing the SCVMM SP1 BETA, it worked only for 1 day again the same problem.

I can add new library server but i don't want to do that,

Please give me suggestion to resolve this problem.

Thank & Regards

Really confused about networking with VMM 2012 SP1

$

I'm setting up a VMM 2012 SP1 "private cloud" in my lab.  I have a Dell C6220 with a total of 5 physical hosts.  1 host is the VMM 2012 Sp1 box and the other 4 are Hyper-V hosts.  Each of the Hyper-V hosts has 2 physical NICs.  Nic 1 on all 4 boxes is plugged into a switch with a 147.191.x.x subnet for management and has a static IP for it.  Nic 2 is plugged into another switch with 10.21.x.x subnet access and each NIC is setup with a static IP address.  Both nic1 and nic2 were pingable before I did anything in VMM.  I have not configured any virtual networking locally through the Hyper-V console.  I created my logical network in VMM and IP pool and all that and I believe it looks good.  I am trying and go through the creation of a logical switch to take advantage of the centralized management and it looks ok.

When I do that and add a virtual switch to the hardware section of each host (and assign it to the correct NIC), the local network configuration for nic2 on each hyper-V host goes away, and so do the check boxes next to IPv4 and 6 and other stuff.  Now that static IP address is no longer pingable.  Just for giggles, I deploy a template to the hose and of course it has no network, why would it?  I don't know what I'm doing wrong here.  I just can't seem to get networking straight for my cloud.

I am just trying to setup very basic networking.  All VM traffic goes through nic2 and mgmt goes through nic1.  Those check boxes (management and placement) are setup correctly on each host under properties-->hardware.  I'm not trying to do any teaming or anything fancy.  I am not sure if the logical switching is by design supposed to wipe out the NIC settings on the physical NIC or what.  so confused.  Any kick in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

Creating a VM template with more than one VHDX

Hi,

I have created a VM template of a server on my Hyper-V environment. The  VM has 3 expanding VHDx disks.

However, the template only captures 1 disk (the disk with the OS). How do I create a template which will automatically capture the other 2 disks?

I've noticed that when I create a vm of this template, I can specify additional disks. However, these disks are the standard ones (small/large etc) in the VHD folder of the library share. However, even with the VHDx files in this directory. they aren't deticted in SCVMM in the library. How can I address this?

is vmm 2012 sp1 ctp compatible with windows server 2012 RC?

We have successfully be running the ctp with windows server 8 beta since the ctp was released.  So when WS2012RC came along we took a couple of machines and brought it up.  We can "live nothing" migrate machines from WS8Beta machines to WS2012RC and back.  But cannot create new vms in VMM 2012 CTP running in a WS2012RC VM hosted on a host running WS2012RC.

Thank you,

Missing tabs from VM template properties in VMM 2012 SP1

$

One of the VM templates stored in a library had a few properties modified (Numlock, RAM, processor count) and after saving those changes, there are several tabs missing from the properties window.  I could not reproduce this on other VM templates.  Clones of this template also have the tabs missing.

The missing tabs are OS Configuration, Application Configuration and SQL Server Configuration.

TFS 2012 lab management will not allow me to create an environment using this template, stating 'Domain User Name' is an not a valid property.

How do I get the missing tabs back?

HI,

I have installed SCVMM 2012 GA build.

I am facing issue while creating Linux template for RHEL 6.2.

after I created the VM using ISO and set the operating system accordingly, the create template menu option is disabled.

only clone to template option is enabled.

is Guest customization not supported for Linux VMs?

I can do the same with SCVMM 2012 Sp1 "BETA"

is there any workaround.

Thanks.

windows size / resolution when connecting via scvmm console

Hi

right... please see attached screenshot for my problem..

As you can see... the windows is the usual size, but the server VM it is displaying is not showing as it should.. something has gone wrong with the display settings..

The only resolution I've found, is to restart the server.. which isn't really an option with this server... it will cause quite a lot of problems....

What can I do to fix this?

I've tried the obvious stuff like dragging the window to increase the size etc... stuff like that..

but it must be something on the server since it fixes it self when I reboot an affected server...

Has anyone else seen this?

and what can I do to fix it :)

Kindest regards, Martin

Finding VM name from inside Linux Guest OS

So I know I can find the VM name of a windows machine through a registry key after the Guest Services are install.  Can I do the same thing within a Linux machine?  I have a RHEL 5.5 guest OS, with Integrated Components 2.1 installed.  Is the name of the VM stored anywhere on the system where I can access it?

SCVMM 2012 SP1 crashes while importing console add-in with ActionAddIn - URL/Application

$

Hello,

I am working on a SCVM 2012 SP1 - add-in.

I tried doing the same as mentioned in this SCVMM 2012 SP1 Add-in topic - "Open a Web Browser from the Ribbon", just only the manifest.xml with ConsoleAddIn and a ActionAddIn with ActionType="URL" and ActionParam="google page" .. I zipped them to the same folder name as set in manifest, but when I try to import this add-in using wizard, it crashed my console every time i tried importing it.

Sample code as below -

<ConsoleAddIn
  xmlns="urn:VMM-AddIns-v1-CTP"
  Name="VMM View Add-In Examples"
  Version="1.0.0.0"
  Author="Microsoft Corporation"
  Description="A collection of View Add-in examples."
  FolderName="ViewAddInExamples"
  TrustLevel="Full">
 <ActionAddIn
  Name="Web browser"
  Icon="VMStateSaved.ico"
  Contexts="VM"
  ShowInContextMenu=True
  ActionType="URL"
  ActionParam="http://www.google.com/">
  <ButtonLabel>
Browser
  </ButtonLabel>
 </ActionAddIn>
 <ActionAddIn
    Name="External Application"
    Icon="VMStateSaved.ico"
    Contexts="AllHomeTabs"
    ActionType="Application"
ActionParam="C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe">
    <ButtonLabel>
      My calculator
    </ButtonLabel>
  </ActionAddIn>
</ConsoleAddIn>

Does anyone see wrong in the syntax or anything? I tried Context value with "VM" and "AllHomeTabs" with no luck.

So I added a ViewAddin and override CreateViewControl() to open a webbrowser instance and set url to navigate and return this frameworkElement. This is what is available in sample code. With this I was able to import console add-in successfully and launch browser.

But I would like to know if method  in the afore mentioned topic actually works or not and if i works then what is possible way to fix my crash issue?

Also tried to import same zip file into another SCVMM 2012 SP1 set-up with same result - console crashes there as well.

Since this feature is quite new and could not find much information on forums as well.

Any help, greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bare Metal Deployment: There was an error communicating with the endpoint at...

During Bare Metal Deployment (SCVMM 2012 deploying W2012 VHD), I encountered the following error.  When the issue was encountered, Shift+F10 allowed me to recovervmmAgentPE.exe.log and test ping dwpu-scvmm which resolved the server name fine and got ping responses without any issues.  However, ping using FQDN failed.

On the VMM server side, I checked 1) VMM server and agent services are running, 2) Port 8103 is in listening state, and 3) firewall is off (just to rule out f/w issue).  However, the issue still persists.

I went through the VMM and event logs but I could not locate anything relevant to the issue.  Could someone please shed some lights on how to approach this issue or what other pointers I can look at?

Thanks for your time.

VMM2012 RC: VMM cannot link to this ISO because it is not a standalone ISO stored in a library

$

Hi,

I am attempting to use VMM 2012 RC to allow users to create new VMs from a template with a blank disk, and then install an OS from an ISO.  The problem I am experiencing is that every time a go to mount an ISO stored in my library on the deployed VM, VMM copies the ISO to the VM's folders.  If I check the "Share instead of copy" option, I get the error below.  This is a problem because I do not want to waste disk space with a copy of the ISO for each copy of the template this is deployed.

VMM cannot link to this ISO because it is not a standalone ISO stored in a library.

Store the ISO image in the library or link to an ISO image in the library, and then try the operation again.

ID: 824

I have followed the instructions here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee340124.aspx to share an ISO from a VMM library with my hyper-v hosts, but the issue persists.

Is there a feature of VMM that I am missing which would allow me to only have a single copy of the ISO file? What constitutes a "standalone" ISO in a library?

Thanks in advance!

More information:

To clarify, I CAN mount an ISO over the share path from Hyper-v and from VMM, but not the Self-Service Portal.  However, when I mount the shared ISO with either working method, VMM puts the VM in a failed "Unsupported VM Configuration" state after a refresh, so I cannot boot it or connect to it in the Self-Service Portal or VMM.  On hyper-v, I can use the mounted ISO just fine.

This may be a bug in the VMM 2012 RC.

Well, I've been fighting this issue forever now and figurd I'd see if anyone has any ideas. 1 out of 3 hosts appear to actaully be working in SCVMM. Below is the error I get when refreshing the other hosts that state 'Need Attention'. Notice the 'Unknown Error' comes up with virtually NOTHING when I google search. I've tried just about EVERYTHING that people are suggesting for these errors. Nothing has worked and I'm at a lose of more things to try. Any insight?

Licensing SCVMM with Hyper-V 2012

$

We are in the process of migrating from ESX 4.0 to Hyper-V 2012 and are currently evaluating System Center Virtual Machine Manager to both help with the migration and to potentially help with the management once the migration is complete.  I have read the licensing FAQs and items, but am still unable to completely wrap my head around what needs to be licensed.   It looks like I cannot buy VMM separately, though it is the only piece we have any interest in

Our environment will end up being 4 Hyper-V hosts with a TBD number of VMs (assume 100 and growing for now).  We only would plan on 1 SCVMM server for management.  What do I need to purchase as far as licensing?

Thanks

Chris
