Service Management Portal / Azure Pack: Can't connect to VM Console

$

Hello, I've got a strange problem with the new 2012 R2 Azure Pack & Service Provider Foundation for SC VMM 2012 R2. On the Service Management Portal, I can create Plans, Users and Abonnements without problem and I also can access the Tenant-Portal with the Users I created. There I can create, Start/Stop and delete VMs, but there is one thing I can't do: Connect to the machines via Console or RDP. No matter from which Server/Client, or with which Browser and security settings, its not working.

While using Internet Explorer, after clicking on connect simply nothing happens. When I use Firefox or Chrome, following Errormessage is displayed: "Error downloading the Remote Desktop File for the virtual Computer: [Name]" (crudely translated from german).

This happens with Linux and Windows VMs.

On the Azure Pack Server, the following message is logged every time I try to connect:

Resource provider unexpected exception for request with verb 'GET', operation name 'Outgoing tenant proxy call', request URI 'https://r2-sc2:8090/SC2012R2/VMM/fe8fd994-4377-46d1-a0f3-414ecb4fbbe7/Microsoft.Management.Odata.svc/VirtualMachines(ID=guid'2255635b-f336-4d48-9e84-d726bc50b19a',StampId=guid'd97edce9-d910-4de9-b84c-a62a2271076b')/VMConnection', version '', client request Id '', server request Id 'f6222642dfd446278922a22dd7ab9ccb.2013-07-24T15:02:19.9992631Z', status code 'InternalServerError', reason 'Internal Server Error', body '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><m:error xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"><m:code /><m:message xml:lang="de-DE">An error occurred while processing this request.</m:message><m:innererror><m:message>Invoking method GetReadStream of type Microsoft.SystemCenter.Foundation.Psws.Spf.SpfOperationManager failed. SCVMM 2012, Conntect via conosle does not work when logged in with specified credentials

Hi all

I have a problem with the SCVMM 2012 console. When I start the console I select the "Specify credentials" option and then I enter my admin credentials. Afterward the console opens and everything works except the "Connect via Console" function.

When I try to connect to a VM I get the following message:
Virtual Machine Manager lost the connection to the virtual machine for one of the following reasons: Another connection was established to the console of this machine. The virtual machine has been shut down or put into the saved state. The user credentials provided do not have the necessary privilege to connect (0x0003, 0x0300)

It seems that the Virtual Machine Viewer runs not under the admin credentials which I enter at the beginning and therefore the console cannot connect.

Has someone the same issue ? Is it by design that the console connection does not work with specified credentials or is a sort of a bug or error ?

Thx

How to ensure that VMM 2012 does not alter any network settings on Hyper-V hosts that are added

$

We have a couple of Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V hosts, for which I am investigating whether it might be a good idea to use VMM 2012 to manage them.

It was something of a pain to get networking set up properly on the hosts, but it was running smoothly before I joined one of them to VMM 2012 sp1.

Both hosts have quad 1GB broadcom 5720 NICs and we have set them up to have a NIC team of 3 of the 4 ports, which is used by the host and then we have the fourth NIC connected to the Hyper-V switch without allowing management OS access. This works well for us since we do a lot of live migration and storage migration and since the vm's themselves do not generate a lot of traffic.

Is there a way for me to configure VMM 2012 sp1 so that when I join a new host to WMM, it will not alter any settings at all, which might affect networking performance of the host of existing vm's?

I'm quite new to VMM 2012 sp1...

An additional oddity: When we originally set up the Hyper-V hosts we got terrible vm networking performance - something like 1 KB/s file transfers between a vm and a client machine on the same physical switch. We tried adjusting different settings and in the end, the problem went away when we turned on "Enable SR-IOV" in Hyper-V virtual switch manager. This is very odd since the broadcom NICs definitely do not support SR-IOV. But it helped...

I mention this last bit for two reasons:

- After having added the host to VMM the slow vm networking transfers are back.

- There are warnings/failures in the VMM jobs logs when I create a new vm through VMM, like this:

Error (25262) Cannot set bandwidth setting on virtual network adapter for SRIOV switch (Virtual Switch - Nic4). Recommended Action: Check the native virtual port profile and correct the issue, and then try again.

Any thoughts?

And now when i try and create a new VM template from this VM and it fails with error 680....not sure what is causing the issue. i have disabled the Firewall on the Vm and still fails..

i am using VMM 2012 SP1 with UR4 and the VM is a 2008 R2 sp1 with all updates as of last week.

Is it possible to fully manage Hyper-V Replica using SCVMM 2012 R2 for Hyper-V 2012 R2 hosts?  The lack of documentation and other search results lead me to believe it is NOT possible.

VMM to manage Storage Vmotion

Does VMM 2012 R2 support Storage Vmotion (like or share-nothing live migration)

My customer could use Vcenter to trigger vmotion without share storage.

but when use VMM to trigger Vmotion, it shows that we must shutdown VM first.

Does VMM only support Vmotion with share storage?

Service templates for System Center components

Hi there,

According to Microsoft a set of service templates would be provided after the release of VMM 2012 R2.

These service templates can be used to deploy all System Center components as VMs through VMM. But I can’t find them..

Anyone knows when these service templates will be released? Perhaps they are already available.

Would speed up things dramatically!

Many thanks!

Martijn

VMM 2012 R2 Error (10637) Ubuntu Linux (64 bit)

$

When I try to change the properties of my VM to "Ubuntu Linux (64 bit)" I get the Error (10637) saying it's not supported...

VMM 2012 R2 and the Hyper-V server is Server 2012 R2 Datacenter.

I found a bunch of articles about RedHat and changing the OSFlags value in the table tbl_IL_OS however none of them say what those flags are / do or why set it to THAT value. I've also found a few other blogs about other OSes and different values. I'd rather not guess what the correct value should be...

The actual VM is Ubuntu Server 13.10 but I'm not sure that matters?

Deploy VM from Template with Powershell that contains wildcards for Computername

$

We are building out some automation for deploying vm's in VMM 2012 R2 and we want to use wildcards in the computer name from the template we use, something like SRV###.

this works fine in the gui, as VMM will go out and get the name and return it to the gui, but in powershell, when you deploy it it simply puts the SRV### in the unattend.xml file to the server deploying and it fails because sysprep doesn't like that name.

anyone ever done this or know what i might be missing to make this work?

Thanks in advance for you help!!

Migration from SCVMM 2012 SP1 to R2 - New Hardware

$

We want to migrate our existing SCVMM 2012 SP1 to new hardware and then bump it to SCVMM 2012 R2. Our database is on a separate SQL 2008 R2 server. This is what we envision doing to get there:

  1. Uninstall SCVMM 2012 SP1 on existing server and retaining the database
  2. Backup and restore the SCVMM database to a new SQL 2012 server
  3. Install SCVMM 2012 R2 on new hardware and connect to existing database on SQL 2012 server

Does this sound doable? Will we lose anything in the move? Maybe our existing libraries?

Mais alguém não está conseguindo adicionar HOSTS XenServer 6.1 ou 6.2 no System Center VMM 2012?

No Meu caso  ambiente está assim:

SCVMM 2012 com SP1;

XenServer 6.2;

Versão do Integration Suite: xs:xenserver-integration-suite: XenServer Integration Suite, version 6.1.0.1, build 64930

Mas tentei também com a versão 6.0.0.3; Mesma coisa.

Certificado da CA de domínio instalado no XenServer e operacional;

Administração do Xen pelo XenCenter perfeita;

Configuração no registro de SendExtraRecord para 2 já realizada;

Ao tentar adicionar aparece o erro: Ensure your xenserver hosts are version 6.0

After upgrading to SCVMM 2012 R2 (from SCVMM 2012 SP1)

The VLAN ID isn't showing anymore, i know its still there because its showing in Hyper-V Manager.

When you change the VLAN ID it does apply the settings (i can verify in Hyper-V manager) but it still does not show it.

Hyper-V Host: Windows 2008 R2

SCVMM Host:  Windows 2012 R2

Using the combination SCVMM 2012 R2 and Hyper-V 2012 R2 there is no issue and it shows the VLAN ID.

unattend.xml parsing/merging issue with SCVMM 2012 R2

Hi all

I have a problem with a new install of SCVMM 2012 R2. I have created templates for 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2. I have an issue with the unattend.xml losing some of its configuration when the 2012 and 2012 R2 templates are built, this issue however doesn't occur on a 2008 R2 template build.

I have generated unattend.xml files for all 3 OS's using System Image Manager in the latest AIK using the original install.wim from each OS media.

In the unattend.xml file I have specified language settings, and a few other bits but the issue I have is when I configure autologon with local admin and password. I specify a logon count of 1, I also specify a GUIRunOnce command in SCVMM and not the answerfile. The problem is the resulting merged unattend.xml has a logon count of 999 and no GUIRunOnce command. I have tried different variations where I specify GUIRunOnce in the xml and not SCVMM, applying the autologon to the Template or Guest OS profile and all end with the resulting xml with logon count of 999 and no GUIRunOnce. If I remove the autologon part then GUIRunOnce gets parsed and works correctly.

As mentioned this only happens with Server 2012 and 2012 R2, 2008 R2 works correctly.

Any ideas?

When Deploying a VHD through Bare Metal you end up with a C: that is 40 BG is size and a D: the size of the physical drive. Is there any way to change the size of the resulting C:
Is there any good documentation on this

While trying to update VMM Agent on Host it fails

The updated action is to remove the agent but when I remote to the server only the DHCP aspect was there not the actual agent. I checked Reg within the install section and it is not there at all. So I can't push the update out and I can't uninstall it locally and try the local agent install as it says there is already an agent on the system.

How can this be safely removed manually.

Windows 2012

SCVMM 2012 SP1 Rollup 3 installed.

Thanks in advanced
