Uninstall Microsoft iSCSI Target SMI-S Provider from WS2012R2-- getting error: This product only runs on Windows Server 2012 operating systems.

I previously upgraded my WS2012 DC (which is also running iscsi target) to WS2012 R2 and then understood that the 'Microsoft iSCSI Target SMI-S Provider' had to be uninstalled prior to upgrading the OS.

Now when I try to uninstall 'Microsoft iSCSI Target SMI-S Provider',  I get the error "This product only runs on Windows Server 2012 operating systems".

Any guidance on how to uninstall the SMI-S provider is appreciated.
