Virtual Network Design Questions

Hi,

I'm designing a converged networking architecture using SCVMM 2012 R2. But I have some questions regarding the different components such as Network Site, Logical Networks, VM Network.

  • I didn't get why I should create more than 1 Network Site in a logical network.

If I need isolation, I can simply create one single logical network - 1 network site and under that for my each location/isolated network I can add all VLAN/Subnet definitions here. Because I can easily create as much as VMnetwork I want and associate them with particular subnets. So at the end all my hyper-v hosts will have isolated vNICs for different purposes.

So I couldn't get why I should create multiple network sites..

  • Same question for Logical Networks. In a converged design, to make everything simple, I can create only one logical network - one network site and then add all my VLAN/Subnets. Then create VMNetworks for different purposes like cluster, mgmt, live migration etc

at the end, all my hosts will have required vNICs configured. So in what case I should create multiple logical networks?

Thanks for the clarifications.
