I have recently updated System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 to UR11 with hotfix to support the creation of the Windows Server 2016 guest virtual machines. Updates installed were:
Update Rollup 11 for System Center 2012 R2 Virtual Machine Manager (KB3184831) - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3184831
Hotfix 1 for Update Rollup 11 of System Center 2012 R2 Virtual Machine Manager (KB3199246) - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3199246
Applying these updates has now allowed me to deploy a Windows Server 2016 guest virtual machine through VMM. However in Virtual Machine Manager the OS for the Windows Server 2016 guest VM shows as unknown (see below screenshot):
Guest integration services for the guest VM is showing as installed and version is 10.0.14393.
Manually changing the operating system to Windows Server 2016 DataCenter against the guest VM's configuration does not work as when a refresh of the Virtual Machine or the host cluster is done it sets the Operating system back to unknown.
I have done a quick search on the web and could find any cause or workaround for this issue.
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?
Our environment is as follows:
Hypervisor - Hyper-V 2012 R2 running on Windows Server 2012 R2 physical server hosts which run in a Failover Cluster configuration.
