Error (23317)
The operation Change properties of virtual machine is not permitted on a virtual machine that has shared virtual hard disks.

Recommended Action
The operation Change properties of virtual machine is not permitted on a virtual machine that has shared virtual hard disks.

Is this limitation by design? If we have a shared VHDX between two VMs, then I am not able to change the VM properties from SCVMM.

SCVMM 2012 R2 with Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V.

Appreciate any help !

Storage migration for virtual machine fails with general access denied error

$

Hello all,

I have a annoying problem with storage migration.

Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V and SCVMM 2012 R2, SAN storage, CSV volumes.

Error (12700)
VMM cannot complete the host operation on the <fqdn> server because of the error: Storage migration for virtual machine 'My VM' (78B1982B-69D4-4377-8BA8-C559391797E3) failed with error 'General access denied error' (0x80070005).

Migration did not succeed. Could not start mirror operation for the VHD file 'C:\ClusterStorage\Volume14\VMMDisks\MYVM_disk_1.vhdx' to 'C:\ClusterStorage\Volume6\MYVM_disk_1.vhdx': 'General access denied error'('0x80070005').
Unknown error (0x8001)

Recommended Action
Resolve the host issue and then try the operation again.

This happens only when migrating/moving individual disk/vhdx(allow VHDs to be placed individually) without moving configuration. If moving configuration at the same time with disks everything works just fine. I can even do a live migration from one cluster to another without problems..rtual machine configuration everything works just fine.

Connecting to SCVMM remotely via install on workstation cannot run console windows to VMs (locally on scvmm it works)

We recently installed a SCVMM 2012 machine and connected it to a few HyperV2012 hosts.

From the SCVMM console locally on the machine it is installed on, I can connect to the Console of the VMs on the remote HyperV machines.  However for some reason when I run it remotely from my workstation, I can connect to SCVMM just fine, but connecting to the console of the VMs gives me the error:

Virtual Machine Manager lost the connection to the virtual machine for one of the following reasons:
Another connection was established to the console of this manchine.
The virtual machine has been shut down or put into the saved state.
The user credentials do not have the necessary privilege to connect.
0x0003, 0x0000

The firewall is not detecting any dropped packets (I enabled logging) and I am logging in with the same user as I do locally to the SCVMM server, so it is not permissions.

Any advice would be extremely helpful.  Thanks,

Nicholas

windows size / resolution when connecting via scvmm console

Hi

right... please see attached screenshot for my problem..

As you can see... the windows is the usual size, but the server VM it is displaying is not showing as it should.. something has gone wrong with the display settings..

The only resolution I've found, is to restart the server.. which isn't really an option with this server... it will cause quite a lot of problems....

What can I do to fix this?

I've tried the obvious stuff like dragging the window to increase the size etc... stuff like that..

but it must be something on the server since it fixes it self when I reboot an affected server...

Has anyone else seen this?

and what can I do to fix it :)

Kindest regards, Martin

Deploying OVA template

Hi all,

I have been trying to deploy an OVA/OVF template VM into Hyper-V environment. I have a 2012 SP1 beta version of VMM installed.

I am trying to follow the procedure below to import OVF tool.

http://technet.microsoft.com/library/jj158932.aspx

Now, I am getting the following error while I try to add the OVFtoolsnapin.

PS C:\Users\administrator.VBUAQP3> Add-PSSnapin OVFToolSnapIn
Add-PSSnapin : The Windows PowerShell snap-in 'OVFToolSnapIn' is not installed on this computer.

Can anyone help me in figuring out the issue. I have followed the rest of the procedure accurately.

Thanks.

WMI Performance Counter Error 20513

We're running SCVMM 2012 SP1 with CU1 on Windows 2008 R2 SP1. A handful of our hosts are showing this error

Error (20513)
The VMM management server cannot retrieve performance data for the computer VHOST1.mydomain.com. This issue may occur if the performance counter provider in the Virtual Machine Manager agent is corrupted.

Recommended Action
Restart the System Center Virtual Machine Manager Agent service on the computer NetVHB001.net.da.ocgov.com. This automatically restarts the performance provider. If the error persists, reinstall the VMM agent on the computer VHOST1.mydomain.com.

I've restarted the VMM service and uninstalled / reinstalled the Agent. Still seeing the errors. Is there another fix for this that someone has been successful with?

VMM 2012R2: VMM Server, agent status: access denied

After upgrade SCVMM 2012SP1 to 2012R2 Library Server became unavailable. All library sources with status "missing".

In VMM Console (Fabric - Servers - Infrastructure) VMM Server and Library Server agent status "access denied".

Tryed to remove and add Library Server: Error 24363 VMM agent needs to be reassociated.

Reassociating with different credentials (local and domain) goes fine, but agent status still "access denied".

By the way, after upgrade SCVMM no new events in windows eventlog.

How to repair work of VMM Agent on VMM Server?

SCVMM 2012 - Error (25100) when removing logical network without dependancies

$

I have been trying to remove some bad old logical networks for awhile now without luck. I have gone through the dependancies and removed them all until there are no more displaying. Then I try and remove the logical network and get prompted quickly with the error (25100) below. I am guesing the only way to remove this is in the database. I have gone into the database and found the ID's for the logical networks. Just curious if anyone knows how to remove them completely from SCVMM in the most efficient and effective manor. I appreciate any help in advance!

Error (25100)
VMM is unable to delete the logical network because dependent resources, such as logical network definitions, are still associated. Contact your VMM administrator for details about this error.

Recommended Action
Remove the logical network association with all dependent resources, and then remove the logical network.

Hi,

Does anybody know of any PowerShell scripts which I can use which will detach a VHD file from multiple VM's? I have a few hundred VM's that I need to detach a VHD from so could really do with a script!

Brand new install of VMM on Server 2012 R2

A couple of days later there were new updates to .Net, after which vmmservice.exe will simply not start

Fantastic job Microsoft! Kill your own product

But maybe somebody has an idea?

Already tried LastSQMEngineRefreshTime value in the SQL table "fix", no difference

Logical Switch and Logical Network

$

Hello All...................I have Hyper-V Failover Cluster based on 5 Hosts and I am managing it with VMM 2012 R2. I was slightly confused with respect to Logical Network and Logical Switch in the Fabric Settings.  I would appreciate if someone could shed a little light on the difference between them.  Also, while there is a Logical Network defined by default (Name of the Virtual Switch of Hosts), there is nothing defined in the Logical Switch.  Which one is mandatory? Logical Network or Logical Switch? Can I delete the default Logical Network?

Equivalent of vCenter Linked Mode in SCVMM?

Hi guys,

Is there an equivalent of vCenter Server Linked Mode in SCVMM or how do you generally manage multiple datacenters?

Question with regard to deploying a stored image from Library Server in SCVMM.

$

I am using SCVMM to manage two clusters with a total of 15 nodes.

When I attempt to deploy a stored image from a Library Server, and am asked to select a destination host, I receive a variable number of hosts with variable rating levels.

If I cancel the deployment and immediately redeploy again, I receive a completely different number of hosts, with different rating levels.

For example, the first time I attempt to deploy an image, I might receive 2-3 possible destination hosts with anywhere from 0-3 stars.  If I immediately cancel the wizard and redeploy the same image, I could now get all 15 possible hosts, or none, and again with anywhere from 0-3 stars.

The thing is that a hosts I had stars with on the previous attempt, might now have none; or one that had none might have three.

Is there any explanation for what's going on?

I am logged into the SCVMM console as an admin.

I also always get error 801; "VMM cannot find VirtualHardDisk object ###.  Ensure the library object is valid, and then try the operation again." when running the wizard, regardless of results.  The object # is also always the same, regardless of the image being deployed.

I should also note, that if I select a host with a positive rating, the deployment succeeds

Thank you in advance.

SCVMM 2012 Networking Help

H,

I am installing SCVMM 2012 R2 using 12X1GB NIC (per host). I am little confused about the networking configuration- please guide me

The current design plan is connect (3x3)=6 (trunk)Network cards to different core switches.(Vlan based independent). Till here I am good.

Now my question is

How to configure additional network cards (6x1 GB)? My assumption is 2 (team)network cards for LM, 2(team) network cards for cluster and 2 (team) network cards for Host Management and we are using fiber channel for storage. Is this correct configuration?

Do we need to create logical network for Live Migration, Cluster and Host Management in SCVMM console?

Can we just configure the LM, Cluster network and Host management from Host side without doing anything in scvmm console?

Assume if we create  a logical networks for LM, Cluster and Host management in SCVMM, do we need respective Vm networks in SCVMM because guest Vms are not  going to use this network and I don't want live migration, Cluster and Host Management  Vm network displaying while choosing the Vm network from guest

Do I need to create trunk ports for LM,cluster network and Host management? or access port?

Any help appreciated

Logical Network - Cloud

I have a defined a Logical Network and have added a Site into it. Also, I added a pool of IP Addresses as well so that whenever a Virtual Machine is being made through VM Templates, IP Address is available for it.

I am unable to see this Logical Network in the Cloud.  There are currently two Logical Networks, default one and the one that I created.  I can only see the default Logical Network in the Cloud and cannot see the Logical Network that I created.  What could I be Missing?
