How to get alert that a vm is up?
VMM Agent update makes VMs go down and restart on other VMHost
Hi all,
I have had a serious issue upgrading VMM 2012 R2 from Rollup 3 to 4. When I got to updating the VMM agent on each VMHost, I ran into a symptom where multiple VMs stopped running on a host, and started up again on another. I don't know what caused this. After the "Update agent"-jobs on the VMHosts, we suddenly saw "Discover Moved Virtual Machine"-jobs passing by in the Job History of VMM. We also had 1 of the 32 hosts which crashed completely and rebooted by itself.
Two questions:
- When updating the VMM agent on a VMHost, is it best practice to put it in maintenance mode, or is it generally accepted to have VMs running on it? I can't find any recommendation in guides like http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc917969.aspx
- Why could VMM (or the failover cluster) suddenly decide to start the machine up on another machine?

I have OS 8.1 and can not activate Hyper V because it is not in Windows features. How to display in windows features.?Thanks
Enabling Remote Desktop vis VM Template

Is this limitation by design? If we have a shared VHDX between two VMs, then I am not able to change the VM properties from SCVMM.

Question with regard to deploying a stored image from Library Server in SCVMM.
I am using SCVMM to manage two clusters with a total of 15 nodes.
When I attempt to deploy a stored image from a Library Server, and am asked to select a destination host, I receive a variable number of hosts with variable rating levels.
If I cancel the deployment and immediately redeploy again, I receive a completely different number of hosts, with different rating levels.
For example, the first time I attempt to deploy an image, I might receive 2-3 possible destination hosts with anywhere from 0-3 stars. If I immediately cancel the wizard and redeploy the same image, I could now get all 15 possible hosts, or none, and again with anywhere from 0-3 stars.
The thing is that a hosts I had stars with on the previous attempt, might now have none; or one that had none might have three.
Is there any explanation for what's going on?
I am logged into the SCVMM console as an admin.
I also always get error 801; "VMM cannot find VirtualHardDisk object ###. Ensure the library object is valid, and then try the operation again." when running the wizard, regardless of results. The object # is also always the same, regardless of the image being deployed.
I should also note, that if I select a host with a positive rating, the deployment succeeds
Thank you in advance.
impossible to boot a Generation 2 virtual machine.
Hi all,
My laptop has Windows 8.1 64B installed.
I created a .vhdx file from an iso file containing Windows server 2012 R2 using Convert-WindowsImage.ps1.
I can mount the vhdx file and it seems it is functioning vhdx file.
In Hyper-V manager I created new Generation 2 virtual machine.
In the settings of the virtual machine I navigated to SCSI Controller and created new Hard Drive pointing to the newly created .vhdx file.
Now when I right click on the Virtual Machine and choose start it generates these errors.
PXE Network Boot using IPV4
PXE-E18: Server response timeout.
Boot Failed. EFI Network
Boot Failed: EFI SCSI Device.
No operating system was loaded. press a key to retry the boot.
When I press a key it comes up with same error.
Thanks for your help and appreciate all kind of advice.
Windows Azure Pack - VMM failed to deploy service through F5 Load Balancer
I use server 2012 R2 (Windows Azure Pack) to deploy 2-tier service ( VMM -> Library -> Create Service Template -> Select two tier application -> Add F5 Load balancer -> Use connector to link NIC to Server Connection and link Client Connection to VM network ). I was able to set up F5 Load balancer (virtual appliance) on Hyper V. I checked VMM Orchestrator was able to create VIP pool and member correctly on F5 Appliance. I get the following error. I'm not sure how to resolve, If anyone experience this issue before, please let me know how to fix it. I copied the error log below. Thank you

Connecting to SCVMM remotely via install on workstation cannot run console windows to VMs (locally on scvmm it works)
We recently installed a SCVMM 2012 machine and connected it to a few HyperV2012 hosts.
From the SCVMM console locally on the machine it is installed on, I can connect to the Console of the VMs on the remote HyperV machines. However for some reason when I run it remotely from my workstation, I can connect to SCVMM just fine, but connecting to the console of the VMs gives me the error:
Virtual Machine Manager lost the connection to the virtual machine for one of the following reasons: Another connection was established to the console of this manchine. The virtual machine has been shut down or put into the saved state. The user credentials do not have the necessary privilege to connect. 0x0003, 0x0000
The firewall is not detecting any dropped packets (I enabled logging) and I am logging in with the same user as I do locally to the SCVMM server, so it is not permissions.
Any advice would be extremely helpful. Thanks,
Nicholas
Having issue discovering Hyper-V host when trying to add it into SCVMM2012
Hi All,
I just deployed SCVMM 2012 on a single server (All SCVMM components reside on the same server). I managed to add Hyper-V host into SCVMM but having a problem adding some of the hosts into SCVMM. When I chose to add "Windows Server computers or Windows Server failover clusters in an Active Directory domain that is trusted by the domain of the VMM management server" and typed the server name using Netbios name, FQDN, IP address, it prompts the following error message:
I'm sure that the above requirements have been fullfilled. The target server is member of the domain and it's residing in the same OU together with all other servers that I managed to add into SCVMM. But somehow it still can find the server. I can lookup the server FQDN successfully, reverse lookup also works fine.
And i notice, if i query the discovery using AD and with wildcard * on the computer name, it will not give listing all the computer objects in the AD.
I read the following thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/virtualmachingmgrhyperv/thread/c82009c8-e4a4-44e2-ab75-b33bac9da6ec/ which has the same issue like what i'm facing right now, but the solution does not apply to me.
Can anyone helps on this? It will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

VMM Cluster Optimization - VMM 2012R2
I have a 4 node cluster, each node with 128GB RAM. As I write this the nodes look like this, re: available memory:
node A: 94GB
node B: 14GB
node C: 5GB
node D: 2GB
Dynamic optimization is set to HIGH aggressiveness, and the memory threshold is set to 12288MB. When I click optimize, nothing happens (this host cluster is either within desired resource usage limits or no further optimization is possible).
Either this feature doesn't work or I don't understand what it is supposed to do.
Any insight appreciated.

SCVMM 2012 SP1 Agent Issue
Hello,
I updated my SCVMM 2012 SP1 to the latest Update Rollup 7. When I look at the about menu and than view the version it says I'm at 3.1.6084.0. When I go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\Virtual Machine Manager\agents\amd64 I have the following folders:
3.1.6011.0
3.1.6027.0
3.1.6032.0
3.1.6038.0
I can't figure out why I do not have the latest 3.1.6084.0 folder with the VMMAGENT inside. I'm not sure how to go about updating the SCVMM host agents without copying the vmmagent to the host server. Any help is appreciated.

System center Stack / private cloud setup with network planning
friends to start with i am going to put the same query on private cloud thread also as i am not sure where it best suits and where will i get the most relevant answers.
ok i have to do a private cloud implementation using System center and later on will have azure pack on top of System center but i am not to put all the pieces together as setup wise i have
a. two routers / switches/ two different kinds of firewalls each two quantity
b. Multi please servers
I am having doubts on the network side of it as how the network segments will be as my understanding it servers will connect to switch .. switches to firewall 1 which is basically for filtering all apart IP based attacks and then this firewall to ASA and then ASA to router.. but i am not sure how to put the network segments.
second is ... i understand network in system center is now that IP can be managed automatically but how it will work with outer segments .. means if VMM can manage the network leg for the internal IPs what about NAT to putlic IP via firewall 1 or 2.. is this going to be a manual procedure... i want to keep the max things automated i can.
guys can you please provide me the best approach for this deployment. if i have to configure these devices stand alone i can do it. but putting all the pieces together.. i am stuck with.Mark as useful or answered if my replies helped you solving your query.
Thanks, Happiness Always

SQL Service Template Failing
I have spent the last few days on this I am to the point where I need outside assistance.
I would like to deploy SQL Server 2012 as a service template to about 60 VM's. I have created a service template configured it following the below guide. Using the linked guide I also followed it for sys prep for SQL Server.
I do not know what I am doing wrong but it is still errors out. Can the instance name and ID not be the same? I installed SQL local following the guide. I followed the defaults steps for installing SQL. I during the install of SQL it grabbed some updates not present in the media I used to install SQL. Could this have a mismatch? Is the correct procedure not to 'patch' SQL during the install when using sysprep?
The below screenshots indicate the setup I used and show what the current instance Name and ID of the deployed machine currently is.

MsiInstaller 1035 Events - VmmAgent
Hi,
I have 2 Hyper-V hosts, both on 2012 R2. I just added both to be managed by VMM 2012 R2. Every 30 minutes, MsiInstaller logs a 1035 event to advise that it has 'Reconfigured' the product and does so for each app installed on the server.
On one host, I removed it from VMM. As such, this stopped the 1035's being logged. So this points to the vmmagent.
Anyone else see this and/or have a fix?
Cheers
Regards,
Stan Svetec
